Mark's Background

With a 3 year background already in building and renovating work on properties, Mark came down to London from Cumbria when he was 19 years old and started working for Bartholomew Conservatories, one of the top bespoke hardwood conservatory companies. He then went on to work for another elite company Oak Leaf Conservatories and was asked to be their Contracts Manager, a job which he was very accomplished at however he missed being ‘on the tools’.

In the time that Mark worked for these companies, he was working on Conservatories and Orangeries both nationwide and abroad in Germany, Holland and the USA, including prestigious projects on Staten Island, New York.

Chelsea Flower Show and Hampton Court Flower Show are opportunities for conservatory companies to show off their imagination and skills and produce ornate buildings to show that anything is possible in wood and glass, so Mark had the honour of fitting some of these buildings. Mark continues to stay in contact with and have excellent relationships with most of the top companies in the bespoke hardwood conservatories sector and for many years has been recommended by them to their clients for the maintenance of their buildings, once their Guarantees have expired.

In 1994 Mark went on to start his own niche business, initially with his younger brother Stephen, specialising in conservatory repairs and maintenance, upgrading timber conservatories and also supplying and fitting new replacement bespoke hardwood Conservatories and Orangeries. Because he has worked on all makes of timber conservatories, this puts him in the unique position of understanding the strengths and weaknesses of all conservatory designs and specifications across the board and most importantly, how well they perform over time. In turn, we are constantly improving the specifications of the conservatory components we use, whilst ensuring that they do not detract but only enhance the beauty of a timber and glass conservatory.

After more than 30 years in the business, Mark continues to love the challenge that each job brings him because every bespoke conservatory is of course different. Meeting new clients, trying to solve their conservatory dilemmas and enhance their homes with buildings which are often the heart of the home is what Mark enjoys the most. Our first contact with Mark George Conservatories was with Leslie, it didn’t take long to realise that she is the ‘control centre’ of the company, she’s efficient, knowledgeable, quick to respond to any questions and always has a very approachable manner.

Mark impressed us straight away with his extensive knowledge of conservatories and his no nonsense approach. Working alongside him was Charlotte, they’re a dynamic team and communication with them both was easy.

We were also impressed that Mark removed panels (3 sizes) of the conservatory double glazing to make exact measurements for the replacements to ensure a precise fit in the hardwood framing before proceeding further.

Mark ensures he only works on one job at a time. Each morning they arrived in a spotlessly clean van which was impressively organised with tools, materials etc. The standard of workmanship was second to none, they both worked exceptionally hard and always with a smile, Mark has an infectious sense of humour. At the end of each working day everything was left tidily.

Our 10 year old Amdega timber conservatory had started leaking during heavy rain. After a long and frustrating search, Mark George was the only person who understood the cause of the problem and was able to devise a solution.
